PAYM Handset & SIM plan changes

Last week we gave you the heads up about changes to our PAYM handset and SIM portfolio from 18 April, since then we’ve made some changes which we need you to be aware of.

At the same time, we want to share a little more context about why our Essential plans have increased.

No Frills plan

Our No Frills plans are perfect for customers who’ve told you they don’t need the additional extras that come with Essential plans or above, and who don’t want Data Gifting or Stay Connected. These plans simply allow customers to use their phone for messaging, calls, browsing the internet and social media with capped speeds of up to 25 Mbps.

When is it launching?

No Frills SIM plans are launching into all direct channels on 18 April as planned.  However, No Frills handset plans will only be available in Retail & Contact Centre from this date, they won’t be available in Digital until the 4 May.  We’re also making a further change from 19April, making No Frills handset plans only available to new customers.

Being competitive in the acquisition market is key, so we’ve made sure that by opening No Frills plan for new customers, we have all available choices based on their needs. Essential plans and above are still our key focus, with about 50% of customers using benefits such as Data Gifting.

We will still have Essential Plan tier 2 available for our upgrading customers and we’re currently working through a plan to introduce No Frills for upgrading customers at a later date.

What does this mean for you?

On 18 April, you can sell No Frills handset plans to upgrading customers and will be commissioned as normal.  From 19 April, you will no longer be able to sell No Frills handset plans to upgrading customers and should continue to promote an Essential Plan or above for your customer, based on their everyday needs.

£2 price change on Essential Plan

In Q4, all major operators announced a price increase for existing customers due to high inflation and operational costs. Recently we’ve seen a much higher number of existing customers moving to a new contract – resulting in little to no price increase.

To better align our pricing for new and existing customers, our front book pricing for Essential Plans is changing by £2 from 18 April.  To continue to offer the best value for price sensitive customers during these tough times, we’ve opened our No Frills plans for new customers and as a last resort, we have tier 2 Essential Plan offers available for upgrading customers (from 19 April).

All Rounder pricing to remain the same

All Rounder plan pricing will remain the same and become cheaper to upsell, meaning our more premium plans become more relevant in our portfolio to customers especially those with the latest devices.

All Rounder plans or above are the best option for customers wanting uncapped speeds and gives the choice of an inclusive benefit/s as well as everything Essentials has to offer!

Here’s a reminder of the difference between our plans:

  • The Essential is our hero plan and is suited to most customers.
  • The No Frills plan should only be offered to customers who’ve told you as part of your personal conversation that they don’t need the extra benefits that come with Essential and above.
  • We also have great saving shouts to speak to customers about, when you take an All Rounder or Full Works plan.

Each of our plans have been built to give the best experience to customers based on their chosen devices, so It’s important to also consider the device the customer is on. If they’re on the latest or one of the most recent devices from the past year, then No Frills plan would not be the best plan for them – these customers should be offered Essentials and above, to allow them to maximise the benefits of our plans with the brilliant features of their device.
